A closer look at the journey.

This longer Gokyo programme makes the lakes the first major objective of the trek. The approach passes Dole and Machhermo, with rest time before reaching Gokyo and its viewpoint above the Ngozumpa Glacier. The landscape here offers a different perspective on the Everest region from the direct Base Camp trail.

The published route then continues through the high country toward Lobuche, Gorak Shep and Everest Base Camp before returning to Lukla. It therefore suits walkers seeking a combined high-route journey, rather than an out-and-back lakes walk. The crossing between the valleys and the timing of viewpoint walks must be agreed with the guide for the conditions.

  • Rest time in Machhermo and Gokyo
  • Gokyo lakes and the glacier landscape
  • A continuation to Everest Base Camp
