A closer look at the journey.

The Jumla and Rara Lake route begins with travel through Nepalgunj into the Karnali region. Walking stages lead through the Sinja area and the forests around Rara National Park before reaching the lake. The pace and landscape differ from the high Himalayan base-camp trails, with wooded hills, settlements and broad stretches of water taking the foreground.

Two days at Rara make room for local walks and time beside the lake rather than a quick arrival and departure. The return crosses Ghurchi Lagna and loops back toward Jumla. Flight schedules and the exact overnight arrangements need to be planned together, as this journey relies on access to a more remote part of Nepal.

  • Jumla and the Sinja approach
  • Two exploration days beside Rara Lake
  • A return loop over Ghurchi Lagna
