A closer look at the journey.

The Kanchenjunga programme reaches the remote mountain valleys of eastern Nepal through the Taplejung area. Its northern approach follows the route through Ghunsa, Kambachen and Lhonak toward Pangpema. The journey then returns to Ghunsa and crosses toward Tseram and Ramche, bringing both sides of the Kanchenjunga massif into the same trip.

The route needs a willingness to spend many consecutive days walking away from major roads and larger settlements. The precise air and road connection into eastern Nepal should be agreed for the season, alongside rest stops and the crossing plan between the valleys. This extended programme includes time around the southern Base Camp approach before the return through Yamphudin.

  • Ghunsa and the northern approach to Pangpema
  • The crossing toward the southern valleys
  • Ramche and the Oktang area
